Platelet donors

As my bone marrow cannot produce platelets, I require a transfusion every 5-7 days to ensure my platelet count is at a safe level. Platelets have a lifespan of about 3-5 days and cannot be stored for too long. I need a regular pool of O+ platelet donors to ensure I get fresh platelets (as such, donors will be given 24 hours' notice to make the trip to the NUH Blood Centre) and minimise my exposure to blood products. The procedure to extract platelets from donors using the cell separator takes 60 to 90 minutes. I am very fortunate to have so many people find suitable donors for me, as well as some volunteer platelet donors. Thank you for your time, support and platelets. You are making a tremendous difference to my life.
